How to choose silicone hardness for medical training models?

Medical training models and anatomical phantoms require platinum-cure medical grade silicone, as it offers biocompatibility, low odor, good tear strength and stable elasticity. Choosing the right shore hardness depends on which human tissue you want to simulate, whether you are making suture practice pads or soft organ simulation parts.

5 ~ 20 Shore OO**: Best for simulating soft skin, fat and organ tissue. It has soft flesh-like touch, good stretch and fine detail reproduction, widely used for suturing practice models, skin wound simulation.

0 Shore A  ~ 30 Shore OO: Suitable for composite tissue models, where a balance of softness and shape retention is needed.

5 Shore A ~ 15 Shore A : For simulating firmer tissue, cartilage or durable repeated-use training phantoms. It provides higher tear resistance and less deformation after many operations.

Key tips:
Pick lower hardness for realistic soft tissue feel; choose higher hardness if the model needs hundreds of repeated operations. Pigments can be added to match natural tissue colors. Always use platinum cure silicone instead of tin cure for medical training applications.
